Jul 25 M18A vs Vs Ourimbah 2 , Result: 3 - 2 Win The boys had another 9.00am home game against Ourimbah 2's. The team started the first half in style, creating space and keeping possession. Twenty five minutes into the game and a shot at goal was deflected by an Ourimbah defender into the path of Alex, who calmly banged in our first goal. Shortly after, a corner kick by Joel was glanced across the Ourimbah goalmouth by an Ourimbah defender, and Futsal's lightning reflexes saw him head in our second goal. Then, an Ourimbah free kick into Kincumber's goalmouth saw the ball bounce over the defence and straight into the path of an Ourimbah striker, who made no mistake in slotting in their first goal. 2-1 up at the break and Coach Luke told the boys at half time that he was happy with the first half play but said there was too much space between our defenders and midfielders, and that whoever plays sweeper must take charge at the back. Also, a lack of communication was starting to creep into their play. Luke told the boys to increase the talking on the field, but don't get goaded into verbal slanging matches with the opposition. The second half started badly for the boys when an Ourimbah striker dispossessed one of our defenders and was successful in his one-on-one challenge with our 'keeper Gavin. The score was now 2-all but the boys never wavered from what they do best - keeping possession and creating scoring chances. There were many shots at goal in the second half which were either saved by the Ourimbah 'keeper or sailed past the goal posts. Thankfully, thei boys commitment to slowly wear down their opposition paid off, when Harley hit a hard right foot shot past the Ourimbah 'keeper to make the score 3-2 to Kincumber. One minute later and the ref blew the full time whistle. Coach Luke, although stressed out, was happy with the 3 points and gave player/s of the match to Joel and Jack.
Jul 18 M18A vs Vs East Gosford , Result: 1 - 0 Win This was a 9.15am home game on a sunny Winter's morning at Frost Reserve No.1. In charge today was Asst Coach Oz and he had a full squad to choose from. The boys started off playing their usual passing game but without the fluency expected of them. The boys seemed to lack conviction in challenging for the ball. As a result, a lot of the 50/50 balls were going East Gosford's way. It took most of the first half for the boys to shake off the cobwebs and once that happened, the fluency returned and many scoring opportunities were created. Despite having more possession, the boys went into the half-time break with the score at 0-0, and you could sense their frustration at not having scored at least a goal in the first half. Coach Oz told the boys that they should be up at least 3-0 with all the opportunities they had to score, but were making it hard on themselves by losing a lot of the 50/50 challenges. Oz told the boys to continue to play their natural passing game but they need to lift the tempo when challenging for the ball. The boys were dominant in the second half and once again had more of the ball. Their patience finally paid off after 25 minutes when Joel scored to put the team ahead 1-0. The boys were not out of the woods just yet and they had to defend stoutly to stop East Gosford from equalising late in the game. Full time score was 1-0 to Kincumber. Coach Oz was pleased with the second-half effort, reminding the boys that when they play to their strengths, they always get a good result. Player of the match went to Chris.

Jul 11 M18A vs Vs Gosford , Result: 2 - 2 Draw We played the competition leaders for the second time in 3 weeks at Umina Oval No.2. Coach Luke once again had a full squad to choose from. The boys were on fire from the opening whistle and were dominant all over the park, breaking down Gosford's attacks and then counter-attacking in brilliant fashion. The boys efforts were rewarded late in the first half when a corner kick was met by Futsal with a perfectly timed header. 1-0 up at the break and Coach Luke was as proud-as-punch with the way the boys showed their football skills in the first half. In fact, Luke was more pumped than the players!! Luke told the boys that Gosford, will come out on fire in the second half and will not allow Kincumber to dominate play as they did in the first half. As predicted, Gosford lifted their game in the second half and matched us stride-for-stride. Gosford's efforts paid off 20 minutes into the second half when they scored their equaliser from about 15 metres out. This only served to lift our boys to the same level of play the showed in the second half. The boys started to gain control again and a free kick from Futsal from about 20 metres out dipped and curled and was unlucky not to go in, with the ball hitting the cross-bar. Not long after, some beautiful one-touch passing down the centre of the pitch saw Brad stream through the Gosford defence and hit a first time strike past Gosford's advancing 'keeper. 2-1 up with less than 4 minutes to go and we thought we had 3 points in the bag. However, a free kick given to Gosford just outside our penalty area saw them equalise with the last kick of the game. Despite the draw, Coach Luke was extremely proud of the way the boys played for the full 80 minutes. Luke told the boys that even though they were disappointed not to win, they played some of the best football he has seen this year, and their form augurs well come semi-finals time. Player of the match went to all 14 registered players.
Jul 04 M18A vs Vs Umina , Result: 1 - 2 Loss The boys played Umina on a bumpy Umina Oval and Coach Luke had a full squad to choose from. Luke sensed that the boys didn't look enthused for this game. He was right. The boys lacked intensity in the first half and as a result, had 2 soft goals scored against them, even though they created more scoring chances. The boys didn't deal too well with Umina's long balls to their speedy strikers. Five minutes before half time and a pin-point cross from Brad went straight to Harley, who made no mistake with his shot past the Umina 'keeper. The score at half time remained 2-1 to Umina. Coach Luke told the boys at half time that the only reason they were behind on the scoreboard was because of their lack of intensity, and he wanted a better showing in the second half. The boys lifted their game in the second half and created many scoring opportunities but just couldn't find the back of the Umina net, with the Umina 'keeper blocking everything that came his way. Full time score remained at 2-1 to Umina. Coach Luke was pleased with the second half display and will work on a few more things at training to ensure that the team makes its mark at the business end of the season. Players of the match went to Harley, Jack and Joel. See you all at training on Tuesday, weather permitting.
Jun 27 M18A vs Vs Gosford , Result: 1 - 2 Loss This was a top-of-the-table clash against Gosford City, who haven't lost a club game in 2 years. We were 2 players short for this game (Curly and Josh), which only left us with one reserve. The boys knew it would be a hard game and they started off like a steam train. Five minutes into the game and a great pass to Cameron saw his first time left foot strike hit the post and bounce back into the field of play. Alex then struck the ball towards goal and a great save by the Gosford 'keeper saw the ball tipped over the bar for a corner. Ten minutes later and Harley controlled a bouncing through-ball and volleyed his shot into the Gosford goal, but a dubious hand-ball decision disallowed the goal. Ten mintues later, a defensive mix-up at the back saw Gosford go ahead 1-0 at the break. Both team's 'keepers were called on to make great saves in the first half. Coach Luke was very happy with the way the boys were playing, despite being behind on the score sheet. He told them that they had the better of the first half but Gosford are a team that always make the most of their opportunities, and that's why they haven't lost a game. Luke told the boys to keep up the pressure and even if they went 2-0 down, it will be a test of their character as a team to take it to the opposition. Both teams tried to get the ascendancy in the second half and it was Gosford who scored again to go 2-0 up. The boys maintained their good passing and running game and were eventually awarded with a goal by Brett with about 10 minutes left to play. Despite creating more scoring opportunities than our opposition, we just couldn't find the back of the net again, the final score being 2-1 to Gosford City. Coach Luke was proud of all the boys for the way they played the game despite the loss. Player of the match went to Brendan who stood in for Curly in the centre of defence, and was fantastic at the back.
Jun 20 M18A vs Vs Terrigal , Result: 7 - 0 Win We played Terrigal at Pluim No. 2 on a glorious Winter's Sunday. We were still 2 players short (Gavin & Josh), but managed to grab U16A's players Ryan & Ben. We played some great football in the first half, moving the ball from one side of the pitch to the other trying to create goals. Terrigal were also playing some good football and the boys really had to defend stoutly to keep them at bay. Out first goal came from Joel (header), then a goal from Futsal made it 2-0. A wonder strike from Curly from about 23 metres out saw the ball curve Cabling style over the Terrigal 'keeper and straight into the goal. 3-0 at half time and Coach Luke and Asst Coach Oz had nothing but praise for the all players in the team. Luke and Oz were pleased that the team were playing good passing football. Asst Coach Oz told the boys that they needed to be a bit quicker when they received a free kick, as they could have caught the Terrigal defence on the back-foot a few times. The second half saw the boys play even better football which resulted in another four goals being belted in. Those goals were scored by Joel (another header), Alex, Brett and Chris. It was good to see some of the interplay between the boys, especially Alex and Harley who can read each other's games (courtesy of their time at Gosford City). Another good thing about today's game was the communication between all players who took the field. Thanks go to Ryan and Ben for helping out. Player of the match went to Mr Versatile, Brendan. Asst Coach Oz stressed the importance of attending all training sessions where possible.
Jun 14 M18A vs Vs The Entrance , Result: 2 - 0 Win The team backed up from the game against Wyong to play another home game, this time against The Entrance and we were still short of players (Joel, Harley, Gavin and Josh). What a difference a day makes. The boys were off their game in the first half and were extremely lucky not to be 3-0 down at the half-time break. The Entrance were dominant in the first half. The boys seemed to be a bit lethargic at times and were battling to be first to the ball. Had it not been for a great penalty save by our substitute 'keeper Ryan (from the U16A's), plus 2 dead-on shots at goal from The Entrance which Ryan athletically tipped over the bar, the boys would have had an uphill battle to get a result. The team went into the sheds 0-0 at half time. Coach Luke acknowledged that the boys were a bit tired and tried to get them buzzing for the second half, reminding them that it's important to get good results from every game from now on. Coach Luke switched some players around so as not to tire them out too soon. The boys lifted in the second half and created more scoring chances, as they started to gain more possession of the ball. Ten minutes to go and a nice flat cross by Alex after a run down the right hand side saw Sean (Futsal) jink the ball onto his favoured left foot, and he made no mistake in sending the ball into the back of the net. One minute before full time saw Liam hit a curling volley past The Entrance 'keeper to make the scoreline 2-0 at full time. Coach Luke was pleased with the second half display and congratulated the team on their grinding and gutsy win. Ironically, the team played better in their 5-all draw against Wyong than their 2-0 win against The Entrance, but that's football. The team and coaching staff would like to thank Liam (who scored for us again!!), Sean and substitute 'keeper Ryan (all from the U16A's), for helping out today. Player of the match goes to substitute 'keeper Ryan who really was the difference between the 2 sides today.Coach Luke impressed upon the team the need to attend all training sessions from now on.
Jun 13 M18A vs Vs Wyong , Result: 5 - 5 Draw The team were itching to get back to playing football after 3 weeks of no games due to the wet weather. We were a few players short (Byron, Joel and Harley) but the boys started off well and settled into their passing and running game with good ball control. First half goals by Sean (Futsal), Liam (from the U16A's), and Alex (2 goals) gave us a 4-1 advantage at the break. Coach Luke, whilst happy with the scoreline, felt that some players lacked commitment when put under pressure by the opposition, and he didn't want to see that happen again in the second half. The boys played solid football in the second half but it seemed that the 4-1 scoreline put them in a false sense of security. That's all Wyong needed to lift their game and they scored not long after the start of the second half. Two other goals in quick succession by Wyong still had us in front 4-3 with about 15 minutes to go. A great headed goal by Sean (Futsal) stretched our lead to 5-3, but another 2 goals by Wyong made the scoreline 5-all. The boys did it tough in the last 15 minutes when they were reduced to 10 men, but held on to a 5-all draw in a game which they really should have won, especially after being in front 4-1 at half-time. However, full credit to Wyong for coming back so strongly. Coach Luke was far from happy with the second half display and demanded a better commitment from the team in the next game against The Entrance. The team and coaching staff would like to thank Liam and Sean from the Under 16A's for helping out today. We also wish our 'keeper Gavin a speedy recovery from injury he suffered during today's game. Player of the match goes to Sean (Futsal).
May 16 M18A vs Vs Ourimbah 1 , Result: 5 - 2 Win We were up against the other Ourimbah side today and we were a couple of players short, with Josh being on holiday and Cameron having a hamstring strain. We started off a bit slow and Ourimbah were playing like they were top of the table. It took about 20 minutes before the boys fluent football came to the fore. Just as it did, Ourimbah beat our offside trap and banged in a goal. 0-1 down and this seemed to wake the boys up. The next 20 minutes saw some great passing and movement off the ball. This resulted in 2 goals being scored, the second one a great well-timed header by Brett from Futsal's free kick. 2-1 up at the half-time break but Coach Luke and Asst Coach Ossie were not too happy with the performance. There was not much communication in the first half and Luke reminded the boys that it's extremely important that they communicate and help each other throughout the entire 80 minutes of football. Luke also said that all our strikers are running away from the supporting midfielders and this has to stop. Luke also said that we were giving the Ourimbah strikers too much room to work the ball, and tighter marking was required. In the second half, the boys played the type of football that they are capable of, with great one-touch passing, good runs off the ball and creating space to give options to team-mates. In fact, Coach Luke told the boys that some of their passages of play was better than watching first grade!! The score got to 4-2 our way and when the full-time whistle blew, it was 5-2 to Kincumber. The score could have been a lot closer had it not been for 2 great one-on-one saves by our 'keeper Gavin. Coach Luke said in his post-match assessment that he was very pleased with the way the boys played in the second half. The communication was back, as was their passing game and creating chances to score goals. Brett scored a hat-trick of goals (all good to watch), and Alex got a brace (also good to watch). Coach Luke gave the player of the match to Brad (Nashie) who is always a work-horse in midfield. The team would like to thank Liam from the Under 16A's for helping out and he slotted into the side with ease. On a lighter note, miss of the match goes to Harley, who skewed his shot at goal from 4 metres out with no-one in sight. We're sure you'll get the next one in. Don't forget to bring in your raffle tickets (all sold of course).

Apr 18 M18A vs Vs Terrigal , Result: 4 - 0 Win The boys played like a team today and the results show it - what a great turn around for them from last weeks game. It was great to see the hard work all players put in Man of the Match BIG BURLEY JOSH!!!!!!!! Well done !!
Apr 11 M18A vs Vs Wyong , Result: 3 - 4 Loss Firstly, we extend a warm welcome to the new players who have joined the club. James (aka Curly) from East Gosford, and Harley and Alex from Gosford City. We also welcome back to the club Brendan from Woy Woy and Sean (aka futsal) from Lightning Reps. Also, congratulations to Joel and Brett who were selected in the team from last years U16A's. We also extend a warm welcome to Byron who comes back into the side after a couple of years out of the game. Secondly, we must congratulate Tom, Daniel and Jake who have been selected in Kincumber's Reserve Grade team (Tom and Daniel) and Premier League team (Jake). These boys have given this team excellent service over the years, and played a huge part in this team making 3 Grand Finals in 4 years since U14A's. We always knew that it will take a few games for the boys to gel, and today's game was a good hit-out against a well-drilled and disciplined side. We started off a bit disjointed but as the game progressed, we started to put a few good plays together. Cameron made a good overlapping run down the right hand side and had our first scoring shot which was saved by the Wyong 'keeper. Despite our lack of fluency, we managed to put 2 goals past the Wyong 'keeper to go 2-0 up after 25 minutes. Good lead-up work by the team resulted in the first goal being scored by Alex, and the second goal came out of nothing. Jack struck a low free kick straight down the middle of the pitch which Brad let the ball run. Brad then strolled through the Wyong defense and calmly slotted the ball home. However, Wyong were always dangerous on the counter-attack and a defensive mix-up at the back had Wyong peg back the score to 2-1. Not long after, a Wyong free kick from 20 metres out deflected into our 5 yard box where no-one reacted quick enough to clear the ball. Wyong pounced on the ball and slotted it home for a 2-all scoreline at half time. Coach Luke was not pleased with the effort of the whole team in the first half. The boys knew that they can play much better football than this. Luke said that it was our mistakes that have caused the goals against us. He said that all our strikers were running away from the support players when we are attacking, and this was not good enough. The second half started poorly with a couple of defensive blunders which resulted in Wyong slotting home another 2 goals. With 15 minutes to go, Cameron played some nice one-touch football with Brendan and Futsal, which saw Cameron put a well-timed through-ball to Harley, who still had a lot of work to do before he drew the 'keeper and slotted our third goal into the net. This made the score 4-3 in favour of Wyong and we had our chances in the last 15 minutes (as did Wyong) but just couldn't put the ball away. The final score being 4-3 to Wyong for a well-deserved win. This game was played in very warm conditions and both sides tended to suffer through a lack of fitness and the warm weather. We can take a lot of positives out of this game. With the new players coming on board, we are now strong all over the park, and once we start playing as a unit, we will get the results we deserve. Best player on the day.....Curly.
