Jul 03 U8-5 vs Terrigal 8/5 , Result: 0 - 0 Win
After being given the wrong information on which pitch we were playing, the mighty 8/5s finally arrived at the correct field to find we were going back in time to last year and playing on a small field with tiny goals! Scoring proved difficult as both teams still used goalies.
This was a very entertaining match and Jed, Aaron, Ben M, Ben D, Mitchell, Ryan, Patrick Cameron and Kane should all be congratulated. There was some very good passing with Mitchell firing off some strong accurate passes to his forwards on the run. After several close attempts from the forwards, finally Ryan and Cameron were able to get past the goalie to score. Strong defence from the backs kept Terrigal out

This was another fine effort from all the boys with the team improving little things each week. Kane in particular was more involved this week and was a deserved Player of the Week. Well done Kane and well done the mighty 8/5s

Jun 26 U8-5 vs East Gosford , Result: 0 - 0 Win
After a lot of rain, we were lucky to play as the ground was very wet and muddy. But this was not a problem for the mighty 8/5s as they powered their way through the wet conditions to record a comfortable win.
Kane's first half was in goals and he did a great job, although he didn't have too much to do because Mitch, Aaron and Jed were excellent in defence, stopping East Gosford from having too many shots at goal.
When Kane was out of goals in the second half he was much more involved and played some really good soccer. Cameron and Ryan were busy as usual tackling hard and they also created lots of chances for us to score, they also scored goals for themselves. Ben M was up in the forwards for the first half and chased everything, very attacking as he always is and did a great job as goalkeeper in the second half. Ben D was tough in the middle of the park, he got knocked over a couple of times but got straight back up kept on playing. Mitch and Patrick also took some heavy hits and to their credit (after a short rest) got back on the field to help their team.
Other goal scorers today were Mitchell and Aaron. (sorry if i missed anyone). Another great team effort by the boys who had a lot of fun in the mud!
MOM was awarded to Jed for a fantastic game, he put in a great effort for the entire match. Well done Jed and well done 8/5s!!!

May 22 U8-5 vs Umina , Result: 0 - 0 Win
Lucky we were playing at Umina this week as it was one of only a few grounds open. After missing training the boys were keen and put together a very solid performance. Defence was great with all the team back doing their share of work, our passing game was working well which created lots of chances for us in attack, which we converted into goals. All the boys played really well, Ben Dockery put in a fantastic effort today, particulary when in attack and was awarded the MOM award. Well done Ben and well done 8/5s.

Gala Day.
After Umina on Saturday, we backed up on Sunday for East Gosford's under 8 Gala Day. Lucky to get on again because of the weather, the mighty 8/5s parents thankfully set up 2 marquees for shelter between matches as there were 6 games to be played thru the day. The team played some outstanding soccer. Our first game against Terrigal was a ripper. Ryan set the tone at right fullback in the first half, making some great tackles and returning the ball back up to our forwards. He was in goals in the second half and when Terrigal looked set to score the winner, Ryan made an unbelievable save diving to his right to keep the scores locked up, wish we had that one on video, outstanding!

Our second match was against Kanwal and they were a little too strong for us in all areas. The strength of their kicks was amazing and the positioning of their players was terrific. Their centre passes back infield to a player always waiting to score was fantastic. This positioning is something our boys have been working on with coach Matt and recent guest coach Dave, but the Kanwal team showed the 8/5's how it should be done. Our boys still never gave up and the game was highlighted by the other outstanding save of the day by Ben Mellross, when he used his head instead of his hands! Good thinking Benny boy! Would love to have that on video as well!

Our 3rd game was against host club East Gosford. Every player played well and showed wonderful skills. Jed, Patrick, Ryan and Mitchell managed to score great goals in this game.

Unfortunately because of the rain, the organisers called off the rest of the games. I am sure all the boys had fun and they seemed to use up just as much energy chasing each other around between the games. I would like to thank Camerons dad James and also Manager Dave for organising the marquees and the other 8/5 parents for helping to set them up and take them down at the end of the day. Also, welcome home to coach Matt after his world surfing safari

May 15 U8-5 vs Kincumber 8/2s , Result: 0 - 0 Draw
Today we played another Kincumber team the 8/2s. These two teams put on a great show for everyone and they all deserved the three cheers at the end of the game for a great effort!
The game started off a million miles an hour with the Two's probably getting a better start than us but to our credit we did come back strongly.
We did a lot of defending early in the game and Kane and Jed did very well for us, saving the day with good scrambling defence. Ben D was excellent in goals too, pulling off some great diving saves.
Mitch, Cameron, Ben M and Ryan were up front early in the first half and did a great job putting pressure on the Two's defensive line. We came close to scoring many times but we just weren't having any luck.
We kept trying and soon after Ryan scored the first of his two goals.
When Patrick came on he was full of running and prooved to be a handfull again for the opposition defence. Great game Patrick.
After a huge first half effort on the field, Ben M was moved to goalie for the second and did a brilliant job with some classic diving saves. Some positional changes saw Jed push forward with Ben D
while Mitch, Cameron and Ryan got back and did their share of defence, although at times it did appear that we were all playing forward! Not long to go and down 3-2, Ben D takes the ball and scores a nice goal to square the leger. Onya Ben! A very tough decision for MOM as everyone played terrific, but today Cameron was our man. Good in attack and great in defence as usual, Cameron has been very consistant over the last few weeks as well. Well played Cameron!
Thanks for a great game 8/5s and 8/2s.

May 08 U8-5 vs Terrigal 8/8s , Result: 0 - 0 Draw
Today the mighty 8/5s thrilled the crowd with another great display of outstanding soccer. Like most games against Terrigal, this one was exciting to watch with the play going from one end of the field to the other. Mitchell got our scoring underway early in the first half with a nice shot finding the back of the net. Mitchell, Patrick and Ben Mellross were working hard covering a lot of ground trying to score again but it wasn't easy work against a strong Terrigal defence. Cameron, Jed and Ryan were defending well and they saved us on many occasions, as did Aaron who did a great job as 1st half goalie. But Terrigal hit back to lead at half time.
At the break we had a chat and a drink and got some good advice from coach Mat. Back on the field, we turned the second half into a real contest.
Ben Dockery and Kane defended well and cleared our goal line making life hard for the opposition, and Jed's goal keeping was great. With about ten minutes to go the boys started to take control of the game and had many shots at goal just miss. Terrigal were under pressure and it was at this point Ryan started to really come into the game. He ran the ball down the right wing with speed and then towards their goal where his Roos teammates were waiting to pounce. Before we knew it Ryan had scored two goals to level the game at 3 all. A huge effort by Ryan and by all the boys today. MOM this week goes to Mitchell for another tireless game. Keep up the good work Mitchell and well played team!

May 01 U8-5 vs East Gosford 8/3s , Result: 0 - 0 Win
Today was another excellent display of quality soccer by the mighty 8/5s resulting in a very solid win. We finally had our full squad together for todays game with the welcome return of Ben Dockery and Aaron Judd after holidays. Ben and Aaron showed what good footballers they are with both boys playing great games for their team. They both worked very hard and Aaron was particulary good at the back with great defence and many big clearing kicks to keep the East Gosford attack away from our goal.
First half goal keeper Kane made some excellent saves today and seems to really love the job when keeper.
Ryan, Ben Mellross and Jed were charging forward and shooting for goal when they saw a chance which kept the East Gosford defence under constant pressure. They were well supported by Cameron and Mitchell, who also did a lot of work getting back in defence making some tough tackles. But the star of the show and today's MOM went to
'Hatrick Patrick' and as the name suggests he netted three super goals, was brilliant and a constant danger when attacking, and his goalkeeping in the second half was first class! Well played Patrick and well played 8/5s.

Apr 17 U8-5 vs Terrigal 8/5s , Result: 0 - 0 Win
WOW, what a performance! A fantastic team effort today to score a very convincing win against a pretty good team in Terrigal. The first half was a very close and tough half of soccer with the scores locked at 3 all, this match could have gone either way, but in the second half the mighty roos cut loose and within no time we were up by 3 or 4 goals. Terrigal simply had no answer for our attack, we were too fast and too skillfull with some wonderful passing movements ending in great goals. The way we passed the ball around to each other was fantastic to watch. All the boys were great in attack and they all did their share of work in defence. Ben M had an outstanding game, he ran the ball busting tackles and was also back in defence when his team needed him, he was rewarded with MOM honours today, well played Ben. Once again a great team effort from all of the mighty 8/5s.

Apr 10 U8-5 vs East Gosford 8/4s , Result: 0 - 0 Win
A bit of a shock when arriving at the ground today, our boys had to play their first game of the season on a full size field! A pretty big field for under 8's, but this didn't worry our boys at all as they performed brilliantly to start the year with a faultless display. With speed to burn, the mighty roos outclassed East Gosford with a victory. The whole team played great soccer, so dominant that 1st half goalie Jed never touched the ball! Ryan recieved the MOM award for his great allround game and the win was also a great way to start the day for birthday boy Kane. Great start 8/5s!
