Aug 21 U9A vs Berkeley Vale , Result: 1 - 0 Win Missed this game due to the Federal Election. I believe Michael scored a cracking goal to put the Roo's into lead were we stayed until the whistle. |
Aug 14 U9A vs Kanwal , Result: 1 - 2 Loss A nice sunny day for a change but all was not perfect, Ash & Kerian were both down with the flu. Coach Josh had to work and Danny stepped up to head coach for the weekend. With Levi in goal the boys took the field 1 short and ready to play. This Kanwal side came with big wraps but the boys were up to the task. Straight from the kickoff the boys went on attack with Charlie making a break and passing across for a Ryan shot, just wide. Levi mad a couple of saves down the other end. Tom and Matt were holding the middle well, Jack pushed forward and had a shot at goal. The young Roo's were putting so much pressure on but couldn't score. The play was Toby up to Matt, pass to Tom to Michael shot, Kanwal keeper saved back to Ryan shot, Kanwal keeper saved again out to Michael for another shot...how have we not scored! Kanwal made a break and scored a lucky goal. Jack Day from the 9C side came to our rescue and took the field to level up the numbers and had a great game, thanks Jack.Into oranges at 0-1.
Toby took thr goalkeeping gloves for the second half and was in the action straight away. Levi was cut loose and was charging down the field. Matt was all fired up and there was a bit of shirt pulling from the other side which is not in the spirit of the game. Ryan and Michael were drifting up from and having the occasional chat. Finally some luck with a ball from Matt to Tom who pusehed down field, shot and a goal finally after so much pressure, the boys were playing so well and the passing and tackling was spot on. One of the few times that Kanwal pushed down field and with a good goal hit the lead 1-2. No matter how hard the boys tried they couldn't break through and level the game. 1-2 at the final whistle. Best on ground was Matt with great passing tackling and evasion when running the ball. Tom took out the McD award, I was tired watching Tom on how much work he did. Hopefully the weather will hold for Tuesday. Yours in football, Craig. |
Jul 24 U9A vs East Gosford , Result: 4 - 2 Win We witnessed a treat of champange football today, the boys needing a much needed win responded in the best possible way by finding the back of the net. Jack was taking the gloves for the whole game as somehow he has snuck under the radar and not been goalie. The game started at frantic pace and the young Roo's applied the pressure on EGO, Ryan had an early shot that was saved, we had a couple of corners from Levi & Tom but couldn't fine the net. Toby & Tom were leading the defence, Michael had a shot just wide. EGO made a break and chipped the ball high, Jack was outstretched but couldn't save the ball 0-1 down. Matt was controlling the midddle well and Kerian pulled off a solid tackle the boys were playig well and it was only a matter of time. A good ball from Ash to Toby and then onto Matt shot...GOAL! 1-1 we went into oranges all locked up. The second half started the same with frantic pace Levi was playing well with Charlie passing the ball forward we had a shot the keeper saved but couldn't hold the ball Ryan followed through and guided the ball into the net GOAL 2-1 we hit the front. Jack in goals was making last ditch saves and clearing the ball well. Michael to Levi who crabbed his way to goal and regained his feet, shot GOAL 3-1 to the young Roo's the passes were sticking. We pushed forward again with Kerian to Ash to Matt to MIchael another shot and save by the EGO keeper. The game was nearing the end but the best was yet to come EGO cleared the ball but not far enough...Matt struck the ball sweetly and it cannoned into the back of the net...what a bootiful strike! (thanks Paul, poetic licence) 4-1 EGO were shell shocked and the Roo's on fire. EGO scored a late consolation goal but the game was done 4-2 win. Coach Josh had a grin from ear to ear...Best on ground was Michael who never gave up with great passsing and shots on goal. The McD award went to Toby who tackled and passed well and got the boys moving forward. Looking forward to next week. Yours in footbal Craig & Josh. |
Jul 17 U9A vs Terrigal , Result: 1 - 6 Loss The home of football Frost reserve pulled up ok after all the rain, it was a bit squishy under foot but not the slop I had predicted. With all full complement Kerian took the gloves for the first half against the glamour club Terrigal, I was kind of hoping Terrigal might be out of sorts travelling to Frost. FRom the kickoff it looked that way with all the ball with the young Roo's, Michael and Matt countered any attack and sent the ball up foward but we couldn't get the shoy away, the Terrigal defence was hard on the ball. Tom and jack were scrambling well and Toby solid and some good runs through as well. Against the run of play Terrigal scored the opener. Kerian pulled of some great saves but despite the efforts in defence we quickly went a couple of goals down. Levi, Charlie and Ryan were working well with some great passing but we just couldn't get a shot away. at half time we were down 0-4. After some inspirational words from Coach Josh at half time the second stanza was a different ball game. Terrigal did score early but it was more from a mistake from the Roo's and despite Toby's efforts (who took the gloves) couldn't save the ball. We hit straight back though with a nice ball from Matt at the back to Ash who shot and goal! Once we strung a few passes together we looked good. The defence was always solid with Jack, Toby, Kerian & Tom. We also had a few breaks with Charlie, Ryan and Matt. Levi was trying hard as ever and Toby pulled off some excellent saves in the goal. At the final whistle is was 1-6 but a much improved effort. If we could string some training runs together who knows. Best on ground was Ash with a blinding goal and many great runs and balls through. Charlie took the McD award for never giving up and great passing. See you next week for the big round including the gala day. Yours in football, Craig. |
Jul 03 U9A vs Southern Ettalong , Result: 2 - 3 Loss Last time we played SEU it was all locked up at fulltime, this game was going to br no different with both teams fairly even. We were also down Toby for the game. Graham arrived at the ground an hour early just to scout out the playing conditions and the opposition. Steve had the oranges sorted so we were all set for kickoff. Charlie took the gloves for the first half and we were right to go. From the kickoff the boys were on the attack with a corner straight away, Levi took the corner and with a short play had a shot at goal, saved by SEU. We mounted another attack through Matt, Michael the onto Ryan shot..deflection GOAL, finally some luck has bounced our way and we had an early lead. The boys got comfortable though and SEU attacked back and scored 1-1. Tom had a great run and shot at goal from wide and it rocketed into the back of the net 2-1 we hit the lead. Charlie pulled of some ripper saves. From a SEU set piece Tom hit a header which saved a goal. There was another SEU break which Kieran pulled of a great last man tackle. SEU placed a cross and shot goal 2-2 at the break. Chrlie and Matt swapped for the second half. Ash was making some great runs and had a couple of shots at goal. Jack was flat out in defence as usual, letting nothing through. These SEU kids could boot a ball and Matt bunted a number of balls away from the net. An early goal in the second half had SEU up 3-2. Charlie was getting the bulldog back and had a couple of shots. Ryan and Michael were doing some great passing up front. Down to the final minutes were both Ash & Levi made good breaks but we couldn't get the equaliser. The boys just went down 3-2, it was a great game with end to end action. Best on ground was Matt with good on field skill inn the first half and some ripper saves in the second. The McD award went to Tom who had a blinder on the field and was in everything. See you at training (weather permitting) Yours in football Craig & Josh. |
Jun 26 U9A vs Killarney Vale , Result: 2 - 3 Loss Firstly a big thankyou to the canteen & BBQ helpers for the morning. I didn't hear of any complaints so the food & coffee must have been good. Killarney is the first team we have played twice and we just got pipped last time. Ryan had the arm band and led the boys out onto a muddy slop with the occasional blade of grass. Really how could the field get much worse so play on, unlike some of the other clubs Frost was declared fit to slide around on. Michael took the gloves for the first half as keeper. The ref gave up on footwear and went traditional. When we kicked off it was all the Roo's with great passing from Matt, Charlie & Ryan. Toby, Jack and Tom has great defence and Levi was breaking through the Killarney defence. It was against the run of play that Killarney scored 0-1. It didn't last long though with Levi making a break and slotting the ball in the net 1-1. Michael was putting his body on the line and stopping everything, an unlucky bounce saw Killarney heading into the break 1-2 up. The second half had Levi takng the gloves and Michael moving out to the mid field. Tom, Jack and Toby were playing well in defence with Toby making some nice moves. Upfront Charlie went for a slide and his number 15 was totally caked in mud. There was a nice break from Ash onto Ryan who passed to Charlie and goal...it's all locked up 2-2. Tom was driving forward and had a shot at goal, Ryan had a couple of shots and keeping the Killarney keeper busy. Jack was working hard at the back cleaning up the scraps. Again we were pipped late in the game with a goal to Killarney, 2-3 at the final whiste. Best on ground was voted Toby who was showing excellent skills. The McD award went to Jack for solid defence. See you at training. Yours in football Craig & Josh |
Jun 19 U9A vs Woongarrah , Result: 3 - 2 Win It was great to see the sun out and the pitch dry for an away game up north. Steve with his in-built GPS was at the wrong ground, the Carsons were at the wrong suburb, we were lucky to get a team there at all! To add to the woes Levi had a sore foot and Michael had been sick all week. Anyway we all got sorted and the boys ran onto the pitch keen to have a game after a long lay off. Toby had the gloves for the first half and did a cracking job, saved everything and cleared the ball well. It was shaping in to a great game with end to end action. Levi succumbed to his foot injury, a big thank you to Brandon from the 9C's for making the trip up, Brandon ran on to rplace Levi. Kerian was working well at the back with Matt, Tom & Ash doing well in the middle. Jack was having a cracker at the back tackling anything that moved. Charlie and Ryan up front were making breaks and havinng a couple of shots. Michael also ran on and was helping out in the middle playing well. At half time it was all locked upp 0-0. The second half strated of well with Brandon finding the back of the net for an 1-0 lead to the young Roo's. We couldn't rest as pretty much straight away Woongarrah hit back to level the game up 1-1. Woongarrah then hit the front with a second goal and we had our backs to the wall. Toby was on the field and playing really well send the ball upfront for Matt and Charlie. We made a good raid through Levi Tom & Ash with Levi having a strike and finding the net 2-2 game on! It was going to take something special to gain an advantage. Jack and Michael were playing well with Kerian chipping in. Ryan was inn the goals and was saving well. The boys launched a raid and were awarded a corner. From the Levi corner kick the ball went to Tom for the finish. We hit the front 3-2. We needed something special and we got it! Woongarrah were pushing forward and spread the ball wide heading toward our goal. There was a firm shot, the ball was flying in the bottom corner or our net. Ryan launched himself sideways and got a fingertip to the ball and pushed it wide of the net, letoff only a minute to go. All the boys dug deep and finished the game strong for a 3-2 win! What an awesome game. Coach Josh was happy to get the choclates. Best on ground was Ryan with the trophy and Levi who was brave and pushed on with an injured foot. See you all on Tuesday. Yours in football Craig & Josh. |
May 15 U9A vs Avoca , Result: 2 - 2 Draw The young Roo's faced the local derby with one man down in Toby off chasing some gnarly waves up the North Coast...go dude... We also had a late scratching with Kerian pulling out. That meant we were down to eight men, which wasn't a bad thing I must say that Avoca field was like playing in the backyard running around the clothesline, short! I think we need a FIFA ruling on under 9 field sizes, it is different at every ground. To the action, the boys kicked off and were straight on the attack with Matt, Charlie and Levi moving forward with some great passing. Tom had the goal gloves and was booting the ball to halfway with ease. Jack was solid as always cleaning up any attack, up fron Ryan has a couple of shots and Michael was chiming in with some great touches. Avoca won a corner and an unlucky bounce had the young Roo's down 1-0. The spectators on the hill weren't happy, Steve was about to throw the foam esky out onto the pitch, his young fella Ash was going flat out though. Halftime the boys weredown 1-0 game on though. Coach Josh gave the most inspirational half time talk I have ever witnessed, I wanted to play..the boys were fired up for the second half..And didn't it work. Straight away in attack Tom booted the ball straight into the top corner of the net 1-1..Game on! Charlie was in goals and pulled off some ripper saves at the other end it was finger tip stuff with the Avoca goal keeper saving shots from Matt, Tom and Ryan. Jack was hitting hard in defence. Until this...the ball was cleared by Avoca and then Michael hit a full blooded cross kick into the top corner of the net. Get off the phone Shelley! your son has just scored the goal of the year (I think she just saw the goal). The hill went off..Steve destroyed the esky...Roo's Roos's Roo's was the cheer, we were all over Avoca..But couldn't land the final blow. Charlie was magnificent in goals, Jack & Ash in defenece. Matt shot just wide...Ryan shot hit the side net...right until the final whistle the boys didn't give up. 2-2 it is in the backyard. What a game..Hang in there lads it is coming together. Best on ground was Charlie with his defence in and out if goal. Michael took out the McD award with a sensastional strike. I can feel a win is just around the corner. Well done boys..Who was that strange man handing out lollies after the game???? Yours in football Craig & Josh. |
May 08 U9A vs East Gosford , Result: 0 - 4 Loss The young roos had a spirited training session with Head Coach Josh and were fired up for the East Gosford encounter. We had a full team and fesh legs with a reserve for this week. Matt took the gloves and the armband and lead the boys onto the pitch. I must say there were good sports all round with all the boys shaking hands and there was a good feeling in the air. EGO came with some high tags in beating the Terrigal outfit we played last week. The salary cap is now a shambles....Whistle (toot!) Ryan to Charlie back to Ryan to Charlie back to Ryan tackled EGO went on the attack and the defence was called into play with Toby, Kieran, Jack and Tom cleaning up the scraps. Levi, Michael and Ash worked hard and pushed forward. Matt with the gloves cleaned up anything that went near the goals. The EGO goal was an unlucky deflection with the ball landing in the net. There was nothing in it at half time with the boys down 1-0. Ash took the gloves for the second half and was called into action early with the ball bobbling around and again finding the back of the net early in the half. The boys were unlucky once again with a nice piece of work from Michael knocking the ball lose from the EGO goalkeeper's grasp and finding the back of the net. It was a bit to much action for the referee and the goal wasn't awarded. Matt back on the field was going well in attack passing the ball upfield to Ryan and Charlie. Levi was flatout tackling and running forward. We had some good breaks but couldn't get the last pass through. Toby's defence was a high standard again and Ash pulled off some great saves and was kicking well out of defence. Michael was trying hard a had a couple of shots but we couldn't jag a goal. Never mind boys it will click and the wins will come. Kerian had a great game tackiling and passing the ball up front. Jack was tackling as hard as ever and was solid in defence. EGO grabbed a couple of more goals, at the fulltime whistle we were 0-4 down which wasn't a true indication of the game. One of the EGO Managers remarked that this was one of their hardest games that they have played. Best on ground was Tom who tried hard all day and the McDonalds award was Kerian who had his best game so far. Well done lads. See you at training. Yours in football, Craig & Josh. |
May 01 U9A vs Terrigal , Result: 0 - 8 Loss The boys had a good training session during the week and were pumped to play the "Glamour Club" Terrigal. The Terrigal side has alot of big names and big players, I sense a salary cap issue here! We were down Toby for the game so no reserves, again Terrigal had reserves lined up across the sideline??? Investigation please! Ash had the arm band for the game and Ryan took the gloves for the first half keeper. From the kickoff it was pretty even end to end even with the dubious ref calls (betting scandal as well???)The first Terrigal goal came from a set corner piece with the ball edging out a diving Ryan for the corner of the net. Ash, Levi and Tom were going hard in the middle and our first chance came from a ball from Matt to Charlie who had a shot and the ball flew just wide. At Graham's half time oranges the boys were only 2-0 down which was a pretty solid effort. Kerian was handed the gloves for the second half. Our defence was being tested from the start with great tackles from Michael Michael and Jack. Jack copped an accidental kick to the knee and was down for a bit, Jack however bravely continued on. Kerian pulled of some great saves but Terrigal were scoring of corners and set pieces, during a 5 minute onslaught we had our backs to the wall. Matt was trying hard upfront and had a couple of shots, we just couldn't find the back of the Terrigal net. Levi was running hard and desperately trying to get the ball away. Ash & Tom never stopped and were flat out all game, Michael held the defence together well at the back. At the final whistle we were 8-0 which really wasn't a true reflection of the game. Terrigal were just that bit faster to the ball. Best on ground was Ash who had a fine game. The McDonalds award went to Matt who tried hard upfront. As Coach Josh said at the huddle post game it doesn't matter what the score is, always be good sports, shake hands and give a rousing 3 cheers at the end of the game. See you at training. Yours in football, Craig. |
Apr 17 U9A vs Southern Ettalong , Result: 2 - 2 Draw What an absolute cracking game of football we watched. Both teams going flat out and not giving an inch to the opposition. At the kickoff we slightly re-configured the field to get the size back to playing standard, which really opened the game up. Jack had the arm band and was Captain this week with Levi taking the gloves for the first half. We were also down Charlie who was away working on his tan and Coach Josh. Ryan took the kickoff to Matt and straight away we were on the attack with a shot from Michael. The defence was working well with Jack and Keiran holding solid. Toby did some really good work in the middle and was passing the ball up to the mid field. Tom once again was everywhere in defence and attack. Levi was also saving anything that went near the goal. It was end to end stuff and a real struggle in the middle. Ashley was also having a cracking game with great tackles and passing. It only took one little eror and SEU took the advantage at went into watermelon at 1 nil up. The boys had a good chat at half time and agreed to go a bit wider and more passing.
The second stanza Levi and Ashley swapped with Ashley the custodian. The half time chat seemed to work and the boys were [assing with a shot from Michael sailing over the bar. Ryan made a break but couldn't get the shot away. The defence let by Toby, Kerian and Jack were tackling and anything that got through Ashley cleaned up. We had some really good lead-up from Tom who passed the ball to Matt who passed to Michael GOAL! we were back in the hunt. Levi was going well back out on the field and was driving forward. SEU got another lucky goal against the run of play and the young Roo's had to dig deep. More good build-up again with a shot from Ryan and a deflection to Matt GOAL! Down the other end Ash had no fear the ball was drilled at him, what a save...The boys were builiding from the back with a good ball from Toby to Matt to Ryan lob shot ...you could have dropped a pin the crowd went silent the ball just missed the goal and the whistle blew...full time. What a game I needed to sit down...The standout player for the trophy was Tom who never stopped in defence and attack. Playing as equally well was Toby who was awarded the McD award. Al the boys played sensational. No game next week due to the long weekend. Bring on round 3!. Yours in football, Craig. |
Apr 10 U9A vs Killarney Vale , Result: 1 - 2 Loss What an absolute cracking game to open the 2010 season. The young Roo's were pumped there was a bumper crowd on hand and the stage was set for the season opener. I must say the grounds staff at EDSACC need to be congratulated for delivering a carpet like surface to host the action. Now to proceedings. Young Ashley wore the Captains armband and led the troops out onto the pristine playing surface. The Roos won the toss and elected to kick off with Ryan taking the centre kick. Without a regular keeper Toby took the gloves and was the custodian for the fist half. From the kickoff it was all Killarney with Toby doing his fair share of work. The standout from the opening whistle was Jacks defence which led to some attacking raids led by Matt Levi and Ash. We wen t down a goal but the young Roos were confident in pulling the goal back. The play unfolded with Levi breaking down the right with a cross to Ash who slammed the ball into the back of the net 1-1 game on! At the back there was great defence from Charlie, Michael and Tom any thing that got through Toby cleaned up. The next passage of ply was unlucky with an accidental hand had the ref pointing to the spot. The boys were unsure, the crowd was on the edge...the big number 10 from Killarney took the penalty, Toby gave it his best but couldn't stop the shot. 1-2 at oranges.
The second stanza had Michael taking the gloves and Kieran being introduced into the atack with some lovely touches. Matt showed some great skill upfront and we hit the side net a few times looking for the equaliser. Tom and Levi were carving them up, all the boys were putting in but we couldn't get the cherry. Michael did some sterling work in goal and was delivering the ball back to the attack. At the whistle it was down 2-1, we are in for a cracking year. Jacks defence was the standout and he was awarded the player of the match from Coach Josh. I don't know about you sportsfans, I cannot wait for round two.
